Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been extremely constipated lately and have taken some natural colon cleanse supplements. The pain can be very bad at times. I feel like I can feel the gas passing through and it is really painful. And my stools have mucus in them as well. Is this just severe constipation and gas?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having constipation which could be due to many reasons such as eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, some medications like antidepressants, acidity and certain conditions like hypothyroidism. Need not to worry. You should start with drink a lot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals. You should not lay down immediately after having food. You should do exercise on daily basis. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement psyllium, calcium polycarbophil , osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
