hi i am 40 years old just quit smoking the other day now i am having astma all the time my lungs and chest feel sore and short of breath and wheezing most of the time. When i was smoking i got astma once a year. because i have quit smoking am i going to be like this for the rest of my life having breathing problems

I can understand your concern.
Since you smoked, possibility of bronchitis is more for your symptoms.
Bronchitis is inflammation of airways. It causes bronchospasm. This in turn causes chest pain, cough, breathing difficulty, wheezing sounding etc.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).. PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You will mostly improve with inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
You will be alright with all these in 1-2 months.
