Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello,
I badly bruised my shin a few weeks ago. I couldn't walk for about two days. I never got an x-ray. Now, while the bruising has subsided and walking is much better, I have a hard lump on my shin bone and it hurts significantly to the touch. Is it possible that I have been walking around with a fracture? Should I bother getting an xray now or should i just chalk this up as an injury thats going to take time to heal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi Thanks for writing Based on the description of symptoms and as you are able to walk around,it does not seems to be serious(fracture) injury. The lump or swelling on shin could be because of haematoma that is collection of blood. Two things can be done for this either evacuation by syringe if it is too large or do Ice fomentation,Thrombophob ointment,Tablet of trypsin /chymotrysin combination to reduce swelling along with pain killer like Ibuprofen if required. Hope this helps. Take care Dr.chugh
