Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
64 years old the last 3 days I have had breathing problems when this happens I get lack of bladder control. I do not feel the need toi pee but suddenly I'm wet. Breathing is not real bad but I do have COPD and it is worse during these episodes. Should I seek medical ER when this happiness?.
Hi, Breathing problems in the elderly and also along with COPD needs to be viewed seriously. I assume you are on medications for your COPD and if it is not able to control, you need to meet your treating physician. Breathlessness could be due to complicating bacterial or viral infection. Due to this you might be suffering from urinary continence. For urinary incontinence drugs like tolterodine can be taken after taking a prescription from your doctor. Do rule out any urinary tract infection by checking for urine microscopy. Check for increased WBC or bacteria. If none present you can ask your physician to prescribe treatment for urinary incontinence until the breathlessness is treated.
Hope I have answered your query. Any further queries, happy to help again.
