Suggest Remedies For Severe Cough And Choking Sensation In Throat

I got a cold/possible flu about two weeks ago, which was mainly a sore throat, mild cough, and aches and pains. Over the first week, most of my symptoms got better except my cough has gotten worse and worse to the point where I have fits of coughing so bad I gag, yet I m not getting much mucous out at all. I constantly have that feeling in my throat like after you choke on a drink and you have an urge to cough for a few minutes after, but it s constant. Should I go see a doctor if this sounds serious? I can t waste money just being told they have nothing they can do for me.

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain as you had cold/flu for two weeks there is a possibility that the infection has spread to lower respiratory tract causing conditions like bronchitis, lung infection etc that is leading to severe coughing..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist or a Pulmonologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis..
He can also advise investigations like chest x ray..
He can advise you to take antibiotics like Cephexime and Azithromycin, decongestants like Phenylephrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol, anti allergics like Allegra or levocetrizine, cough suppressant like Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin, warm compresses over chest, steam inhalations and warm saline gargles..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
