Hi I have been having ver irregular periods for the last 2 years nearly. I have been having periods last 2 months then nothing for a few months but when I was having periods it was very slow and dark red/brown this time around I have the slight dark red brown in the day but at 7-8pm I start heavy bleeding then pass a large clot and the bleeding stops till the same time the next night with the very slight red brown blood in the day this has been happening for a week now should I be worries
There are different possible causes for irregular bleeding. These include some of the following : (1) polycystic ovarian syndrome- this is one of the more common causes (2)emotional stress or illness (3)thyroid disease (4)physical illness (5)abnormal levels of a hormone called prolactin (6)side effect of medication
To determine the cause, you would need to be assessed by your doctor. This would include physical examination plus blood tests and imaging. Blood tests may include thyroid function tests, prolactin levels, FSH, LH and testosterone. The last three are used for the polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Ultrasound of the pelvis to take a look at the uterus, ovaries and tubes may also be suggested.
I hope this helps
