Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and thank you for asking!
I can understand your concern regarding to this patient.
When the endocrine tumor responds well to octreotide, than the prognosis is better, but when the disease is progressive, despite of the treatment , that unfortunately the prognosis is not good.
To say the percentage of the life for one year, the exact stage of the disease should be known.
Probably a specialized center in neuroendocrine tumors may try the drugs that are actually in trial.
Wish him good health!
Kind regards,
Dr,Mirjeta

I m taking a medication called Simivastine for Cholestorol. Recently, I have been having aches and pain all over my body and some back pain, on the left side as well and in the lower back area. I was also diagnosed with a Nureoendocrine tumor, (corcinoid) in my abdomine, and liver area. I read that Simivastine can cause liver problems. I also was taking Amolodipine for many years.

Hi, my blood pressure has decreased over the last few months and has been quite low in the last few days. My personal trainers were concerned and did an ecg to check heart and blood pressure. Blood pressure was 88/68, ECG was fine. Saw my GP yesterday and it was 110/?? but he said it wasn t too low and recent blood tests showed normal results. I m currently being treated for neuroendochrine tumour so have had lots of diarrhoea in the last few months. I think that may be the cause of the low blood pressure. Oncologist said tumours would not have affected my blood pressure. I am drinking plenty of fluids. The diarrhea is not constant so wondering if I should take some medication to stop the diarrhoea. I normally suffer from constipation and have haemorrhoids.

Is there any type of neuroendocrine tumor that can cause ileitis? I was diagnosed with Hoshimotos encephalitis and my dtr has been suffering and treated for Chrones, but she does not exhibit the typical diagnostic case. I am hoping there may be a correlation somewhere

My boyfriend had a proctocolectomy and now has an ileostomy bag. He said his stool has turned milky and whitish. Is this normal? His surgery was recent and is undergoing treatment with Octreotide injections right now for a Chylous leak following his surgery.

I am a 65 year-old woman in good condition. I was diagnosed in 06 with mid-gut carcinoid (neuroendocrine cancer.) Tumors were removed from omentum, root of mesentery, ovary, small bowel, peritoneum, bladder, rectum, 10 or 12 lymph nodes were positive for carcinoid. I have been on continuous infusion pump of octreotide acetate for three years. I had three rounds of 177-Lutetium ending in March of this year (2010.) I still have small tumors in the mediastinum and liver. Most are not metabolically active according to recent PET and MRI. But I know this is just a reprieve. What course should I seek in the future? At what point should I do this?
