Suggest Opinion About Insulin Therapy

I am a 76 year old lady suffering with diabetes mellitus since 8 years. I have been on a variety or oral hypoglycemics since then, with a moderate control over my blood sugar. Now, since about 6 months, my blood sugar has been on the high ( blood pp - 180 - 220), and i feel exhausted too often, making me confined to home always. My treating doctor is insisting that i switch over to insulin. Doctor, do i need some more work up before i go in for insulin therapy? Please advice.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear Mrs. Roberts,
i understand your concern,
To be very frank with you insulin is a better option for you as the blood sugars are not under control. I would be in a position to comment better about chances of increasing tablets and avoiding insulin for the time being if i get the current regimen of treatment. I understand that you might have some apprehensions about starting insulin at this age. but do not worry the modern day insulin pens are very easy to use.
Please send your current regimen for a better opinion.
