Suggest Methods To Handle Physiological Issues In Elders

Hi, I am from Sri Lanka. My mum is a diabetic since 1981. She reached 79 years on 04th March 2011. On instructions by her family doctor, she is given a dose of insulin injected daily 34-morning and 22-evening. Since of late she mutters alone and does all sort of crazy things like opens the doors, puts the lights on at odd hours etc.. Please help me to understand whats wrong with her. Our doctor says she is heading into old age. Is it so?Thank you,Cindy from Colombo.

dear,
with the above complaints that you have mentioned here. it appears a case of behavioral issues that is due to increased age.
Presence of comorbidities like diabetes does predispose to such conditions.

i suggest you to get a routine electrolytes, ecg, and lipi profile investigations done, just in case we dont miss out any electrolyte imbalance which is common in the old age.

I suggest your treating clinician to add a
tab risperidone 1 mg tablet in morning and at night
it will take care of her behavioral symptoms.

wish your mom a great health, take care.
thank you.
