Suggest Medications For Follices In Ovary

Hello, Im 22 yo F. Married for 1 year, not able to conceive yet. went for checkup, did ovary scans and found small follicle and got prescribed Ovral G, took it for one month, got my period again next month, scanned again, follicle still there, doctor prescribed higher dose of Ovral G, but I am reluctant to take it because of side effects. Wonder what should I do next, whether get a second opinion or to continue treatment with Ovral G.

Hi,

According to your description possibly you may be having polycystic ovarian disease, which presents with irregular menstrual cycles, anovulation, infertility, etc. due to reproductive hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, etc. To treat the condition the causative factors should be treated. Ovaral G contains Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol, which is usually used for contraceptive purpose and for regularization of the menstrual cycles.

Though these tablets can be used for PCOD sometimes, but better to prefer tablets containing Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol for better results. So, please discuss these things with your doctor and proceed accordingly. Apart from the tablets, regular calories burning exercises, balanced healthy diet and maintaining a normal body mass index can help in treating the PCOD.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
