I have recently been suffering from vertigo. quite violently when it comes on. can not sleep with head down, must sit up to sleep. very tiring. is there a medication I can take at night to alleviate this ? 63 years old. no ringing in ear etc. Just a balance issue. started about 6 months ago. with a severe episode which lasted several days and then settled down over the next few weeks. has come back about a week ago and only affects me badly if I move my head suddenly or lie down. am getting very fatigued from not being able to get a good sleep. normally sleep 8 hours fine , now maybe 3-4 hours if I am lucky.
I understand that boring feeling of vertigo you are living now with. Balance disorders and vertigo especially when moving and changing position is related with inner ear issues and neurological issues too. In patients of your age this is found too often.
I recommend to have an appointment with your ENT doctor to evaluate your inner ear related to the vertigo. If it is required you may see a neurologist too to rule out possible neurological issues that cause you vertigo.
Try to use Betahistine twice daily to cure the symptoms you have. It will help you to get rid of vertigo and improve the sleep.
Take care and i hope you will be fine soon! Best wishes! DR ERIOL
