Suggest Medication For Swollen Tonsils After Completion Of Zpacks Medicated For Ear Infection

On month ago, my teenager had a viral infection with high fever and runny nose. The pediatrician said the strep test was negative and told us to come back in 5 days if my son was not better. 4 days later, on a Sunday, we went to a Patient First because my son had thick mucus in his nose as well as pink eye in both eyes. The doctor at PF also diagnosed him with an ear infection. He gave us medication. My teenager started to feel better, but as soon as the medication was finished, he had a set back. We went back to his regular pediatrician and learned he still had an ear infection for which he was given a zpack. 10 days later, he was 100% better, but swollen tonsils remain from the original illness almost 5 weeks ago causing discomfort (but nor soreness).

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Recurrent infection of tonsils can occur either bacterial or viral following a common cold, droplet spread. In such cases ear infections can also be seen as as a sequelae of cold. The most common cause of tonsillitis is streptococci infection, but there are a lot many bacteria and viruses that can cause tonsillitis.Enlarged tonsils are common after tonsillitis, unless patient has sore throat,a wait and watch policy can be followed. Betadine gargles daily usually helps to clear out most of the infections of tonsils. If tonsillar enlargement still persists in a teenager then it needs to get investigated with blood counts and possibly tonsillectomy.
