General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Your cold with productive cough could be due to upper respiratory infection or bronchitis etc.

You should go for some blood works, ESR with chest X-ray and complete examination by specialist to arrive at a certain diagnosis.

In my advise, you should see physician rather than taking self treatment by in house available antibiotics like you said amoxycillin or cephalexin although they are good.

You will require oral antibiotics (levofloxacin preferable) with antipyretics, expectorant in syrup formulations with nebulization and steam inhalation frequently in a day.

Regards,

I find this answer helpful
