Suggest Medication For Drainage In Throat, Runny Nose And Pressure Behind Eyes

I am a 75 year old male in good health. I feel that I am coming down with a head cold for the first time in 10 plus years. Symptoms are mild pressure behind the eyes, mild running nose, frequent loose semi- clear drainage in back of the throat. My wife suggest "Allegra" 180 mg, but I understand that it is for an allergy which is not my issue. What do you suggest to dry up drainage so I can sleep easier tonight?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the symptoms of pressure behind the eyes, runny nose and post nasal drip seems to be due to Upper Respiratory Tract Infection that has also caused mild Sinus infection or Sinusitis..
You can take anti allergics like Allegra as it will relieve the symptoms..
Along with iy you can also take antiinflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen,oral decongestant like Pseudoephadrine,take decongestant nasal sprays like Xylometazoline, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You should sip on plenty of warm water and take other warm fluids..
You should avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Take appropriate rest..
In case of no improvement consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you an x ray of sinuses and advise antibiotics along with other medications as advised above..
