Suggest Medication For An Infection In The Throat

Hi. I have been dealing with seasonal allergies, especially with the cooler summer weather there has been in Minnesota. I am experiencing some post nasal drip, congestion, scratchy soft palate, but also occasional sneezing and runny nose. Just recently it seems some irritation has showed up in the back of my throat. It is a red spot, and has some veins surrounding it. It is making swallowing and and saying more than a few words at any given time sort of painful. Normally I wouldn t worry but I do smoke occasional hookah and I am becoming paranoid, even though this is a new development and will probably go away soon. Should I be worried?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
I have gone through your problem, it does sound like seasonal allergic rhinitis, especially in "pollen" season. The red swelling most probably is an infected lymph node. usually get enlarged due to constant allergen exposure.
You would definitely benefit by using nasal sprays like mometasone and fluticazone. Analgesics like Advil400 would be helpful to relieve the pain.
You should be concerned but need not worry too much.I also recommend you to see an ENT specialist to get done a nasal endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your questions.
Regards
Dr Rao
