Suggest Mastectomy Or Lumpectomy Is The Best Treatment For Lumps In Breast

If a woman decides to have a mastectomy versus a lumpectomy would radiation or chemo be needed after surgery? Or is it only if the tissue has cancer? Currently I have been dealing with lumps in my breast for four years...two are a concern now and one has doubled in size in less than a year. I am thinking a mastectomy would be a better process (versus lumpectomy) as I would prefer not have an unhealthy breast as I feel I have now.

Hi,
I understand your concern.
The decision of mastectomy or lumpectomy is treating doctor's duty. It depends on type of the lump. Your decision of removing the lump/ breast & getting rid of the unhealthy breast.
* In case the lump is adenoma/ lypoma slow growing lumps (with regular margins, not attached to skin or deep tissue, not accompanied by lymph glands in axila - Mostly Lumpectomy is decided followed by biopsy of the lump.
- Cryoablasion is another treatment available for such condition.
* In case lump is fast growing, irregular & fixed to surrounding tissues Mastectomy is treatment of choice .
* Radiation/ chemotherapy is followed in case-- the gross appearance/ Biopsy reports of lump suggest malignancy.
Thanks.
