Suggest Diet Plan While Having High Creatinine Level
my question is regarding my father who is 65 years old. He is having high createnine level of 5% and is undergoing dialysis. he is diabetic as well but his sugar is mostly normal. There is also increased blood urea. what can be the best diet chart for him.
Appetite poor? Consider renal drinks lactose and sugar free may aid in proper nutrition He should have 1.2 g/ kg protein of which 50 percent should be high biological or complete protein There should be 30-35 cal per kg provided Fluid needs are based on output Hemodialysis needs may differ from peritoneal dialysis and on medications Relace watersoluble vitaminsfolic acid vitamin B6 vitamin c and B12. A proper consult needs to be obtained from a renal dietitian that should be working with the family on this complex diet. In fact ,if you are inUS it is the law that you receive consult & it is covered by pMedicare. I recommend Dietitian consult as this diet needs to be tailored to patient and then Dietitian will need to educate patient and family about diet. I have provided some information and a referral If you have further issues please contact me directly with labs medications sugars and current intake. Regard s,Kathryn ShattlerMS RDN
