Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m having abdominal pain. I m trying to sleep but can t lie on my stomach because it hurts. It also hurts just to apply pressure. It s on my left side and I ve had this pain for about 24 hours now. I m wondering if I should be seeing a doctor or not?
Abdominal pains can be very common and most of the times a self-limiting condition is the cause. On the other hand, there are cases that need medical attention and may end up in surgery. If you have pain that is worse while you walk or jump then very likely you will need to see a doctor to rule out important conditions. If you have had a fall or a trauma and have pain in the left side again it is good to see a doctor to rule out problems with the spleen.
If none of the above and no fever, no blood with stools, then you can try some Omeprazole to help with the stomach and some Paracetamol for pain in general. Keep the painful area warm with local compresses and try to eat and drink frequent small amounts.
If no improvement in a couple of days or you notice any worsening please see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
