Suggest An Alternative To Prednisone To Treat Rheumatoid Arthritis

Prednisone has not helped me even though I have been given it at intervals when the inflamation increases, together with methotrexate for RA . The side effects are devastating how do I deal with this? as I am now having ostearthrits as well. Is there any other way this can be treated without prednosone?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

RA treatment includes the use of many other drugs as well but in most cases steroids are used. Some other approaches include:
-Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs
-Disease modifying anti rheumatic drugs (e.g. methotrexate)
- Biological agents (e.g. rituximab, infliximab, etc.)

Please speak to your doctor about the introduction of either of these medications after discussing their level of use and seriousness.

Best wishes
