Suffering From Stomach Cramps, Loose Motions. Can Get Relief With Imodium?
My son is in bulgaria and travelling home in 4 hours. He has had stomach cramps, loose motions and felt sick Friday and Saturday. Think its a bug not food poisonong. he is 21 - says its not too much sun or alcohol! Felt better yesterday but bad again today. What can he take to make him comfortable for journey home. I have suggested Imodium. Thanks Kim
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).
I think he is suffering from acute infectious enteritis which is gastrointestinal infection either caused by bacteria or viral. So what is required is a course of antibiotic containing ofloxacin and ornidazole. Ask him to take lots of fluid to keep his hydration level well.
Imodium is antisecreory agent and it may improve symptoms but not the cause of loose motion, so a course of antibiotics as I mentioned above is also required along with it
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
