Stomach Pain, Belching, Gas. Worsened By Stress. Parasite?

Hi, I have had cyclic stomach pain and copious belching with some gas for several years. It comes on strong, lasts a few days, then goes away for a few weeks. Symptoms worse at night--hard to sleep. Takes my energy down. Antacids help. Eating helps temporarily. Not associated with any food, but stopping eating grains may be helping. It was really bad (almost continuous) last fall. My MD prescribed Ranitidine , which didn t do much of anything. I had h. pylori blood test which came back negative. Stress makes it worse. My last flare-up came on last Monday, seemingly out of nowhere (good diet, low stress) and flattened me for three days. I m suspecting some kind of parasite. In 2006, I got very sick off raw fish (sashimi) in South America. Might there be some connection? My MD has NOT been supportive in solving this puzzle. Thank you! -Marika

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, it seems that you might be having gastritis.
An Endoscopy may be helpful in confirming.

I would advise that you should take an antacid like Omeprazole 40mg once a day before meals along with Domperidone 30mg.
A probiotic along with digestive enzyme preparation containing pepsin and fungal diastase after meals will have added benefits.

Following precautions will be helpful :-
1.Avoid spicy and oily foods.
2.Avoid being empty stomach for long periods.
3.Avoid mental and emotional stress.
4.Avoid smoking and alcohol, if any.
5.Avoid gas producing foods like peas, cabbage, legumes, etc.
6.Drink lots of water daily.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
