Stiffness On Left Hand, Soreness Develops During Sleep, Disappears Awaking. Had Accident, Started Exercising Hand

54 year old. Developed morning stiffness in my left hand pinky about two months ago. Figured it was the result of having taken a fall on my bicycle about four months ago. Started exercising the left hand pinky thinking it had tightened up due to the accident. About a month ago, the pinky on the right hand started doing the same. Neither pinky is swollen or red, and when not moving, they are not in pain. Also, during sleep, soreness develops on the left side, from the upper back to the shoulder to the neck. Once awake and moving, this soreness mostly disappears. I am able to ride my bicycle daily for 17-18 miles without any issue (not a fast rider, about 14 mph). It is a road bicycle with a flat-bar (think mountain bike) setup.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence.

Possibility of post traumatic injury is less here.
When such patients come to our hospital I advise them blood test like RA factor, ACCP, ESR, complete blood count, HLA B27.

Rheumatoid arthritis may involve small joints and early morning stiffness in joints, does she have such complain?

A treatment regimen for Rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis involves medication, exercise, good posture practices, and other treatment options such as applying heat/cold to help relax muscles and reduce joint pain.
NSAIDs, DMARDs (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs) are sometimes prescribed in more severe cases. These include methotrexate and sulfasalazine.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
