Stage 1 Breast Cancer, Lymph Nodes Tested Negative, On Radiotherapy. Should I Stop Drug Permanently ?

I HAD STAGE ONE BREAST CANCER ,LYMPH NODES TESTED NEGATIVE IN JANUARY 2011 FOLLOWED BY 3 WEEKS RADIOTHERAPY AND 2.6 YEARS ON FEMARA . SHOULD STAY ON DRUG FOR 5 YEARS BUT MY DOCTOR SAID COME OFF IT FOR A MONTH OR SO BECAUSE OF BAD SIDE EFFECTS .WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GO BACK ON WONT I JUST FEEL THE SAME. SHOULD I STOP PERMANENTLY.

Hi and thanks for the query,

It s already good it was a stage 1 cancer and lymph nodes tested negative. It might however be necessary to continue regular surveillance of the nearby organs to ensure that the tumor has not spread. However, withdrawing from the drug after five years will not cause much difference. I think other options should be checked out, or modification of the dose taken could be of great help too.
