Sore Swollen Knuckle In Finger. X Ray Shows Distal Fracture. Opinion?

I have a sore swollen knuckle in the middle of my left middle finger. Hurts to squeeze it and also when I extend/stretch out my fingers. More SORE than painful. Initial X-ray at the GP office came back that it was a distal fracture which is not in agreement with symptoms or with the GP's opinion. Have not seen an Orthopedic specialist yet.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based upon the description, it could be either inflammatory or infective in nature.

Appropriate investigations are needed to establish the diagnosis.

In the meantime -use antiinflammatory medicines like Advil, Moist heat fomentation over the affected area will help in resolving your symptoms.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi,

It seems that you got fracture of distal phalanx middle finger as confirmed on x-ray. Undisplaced fracture require immobilization in form of buddy strapping for 3weeks. If fracture is displaced, it might need close/open reduction and fixation with K-wire.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination and proper management.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
