Last night vein on wrist bulged with huge knot and is very prominent and painful. Today that spot is painful and two more spots have appeared and are traveling up the vein line. Is this serious?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the given description, I suspect that you might have developed Superficial thrombophlebitis causing you the pain.

Treatments generally include analgesics, elastic compression, anti-inflammatory agents, moist heat fomentation.

Hirudoid cream (heparinoid) shortens the duration of signs & symptoms. Locally acting anticoagulants have positive effects on pain and on the reduction in thrombus size.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
