Is It Normal To Have Slightly Irregular Bleeding After Resuming Menstruation Postpartum?

Since my periods resumed after my last baby blood is brown spotting for a week or so then I ll finally get 2-3 days of regular/heavy bleeding then spot for another 3-5 days, why is this? Should I be concerned? My baby is 18 months. I am 44. I nursed until she was 11 months old.

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Breast-feeding has much impact on women's menstrual cycle. It varies from delaying the periods for 6 to 12 months or no periods at all during nursing or irregular periods.

It is absolutely normal for you to experience irregular periods after child birth and also changes in the duration, frequency & volume of your cycle after pregnancy are common.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
