Should The ER Be Visited While Suffering From Nose Bleeds?
My husband had a CABG 3 months ago. He also suffers from Polycythaemia for which he is taking Hydroxurea, and Peripheral Neuropathy (Lyrica is his drug for that). He has over the last 24 hours developed dramatic nose bleeds. He is not on any prescribed blood thinners (just Cartia). We took ourselves to Gold Coast Hospital this morning and his blood tests were all ok. But any exertion (i.e. walking to the bedroom from the loungeroom) starts the nose bleed. Blood pressure is ok (medicated with Tenormin). Is this serious - should we return to the hospital?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
He is on hydroxyurea, possibility of thrombocytopenia or platelet function defects or anemia may cause bleeding. Please apply pressure over 30 secs, avoid forceful blow of nose . Use normal saline nasal drops, if symptoms not improved please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
