Should I Be Worried About MRI Showing Frontal Lobe Damage In A Baby?
Hello, My niece just had her first baby and up until 5 days ago she had a perfect pregancy. She was pretty much full term and one day noticed that the baby was not moving as usual, infact quite still. she called the dr they directed her to drink some oj and or anything with sugar in it and if baby did not move with in 30 min. to come in. so she ended up going in and immediately they performed a c section. the baby was flat lined at the time of birth and has since been getting stronger. they did an mri yesterday of her brain and it is indicating frontal lobe damage. not sure what to except, is there hope it could be so slight it really wont be a big deal or ??
Most likely baby is suffering from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(HIE) and frontal lobe is the involved region. Baby might had suffered hypoxia inside the uterus or during delivery. There are various grades of HIE depending upon the level of hypoxia. She need proper evaluation and further investigation. Prognosis depend upon grading of hypoxia. Mild and moderate cerebral hypoxia generally has no impact beyond the episode of hypoxia. On the other hand, the outcome of severe cerebral hypoxia will depend on the success of damage control, amount of brain tissue deprived of oxygen and the speed with which oxygen was restored. Hope I have answered your question.
