Should Drugs Be Started On A Progressively Reducing Count Of CD4?
Hello dear Doctors. I am male and 33 years of age. Three years ago I won DV lottery. But unfortunately when I took the medical test I was found to be hiv positive. At first my cd4 count was 170. But after about a year it has grown to 256. I was taking only the 'Bactrim'. My physisians are advicing me to start taking the cd4 treatment. But I am afraiding of it because of the strict time for taking the medicine. This week I went to the health office and they have tested my cd4 and found it to be 112 only. They are strongly advising me to start the medicine. What shall I do?
I have gone through your query. Yes, It is high time that you start the treatment because from HIV infection it is converted to AIDS now. Low immunity will lead to several other diseases. For you information: A normal CD4 count ranges from 500–1,000 cells/mm3.
When your CD4 count is 350 cells/mm3 or less, it’s time to consider treatment.
A CD4 count of fewer than 200 cells/mm3 is one of the qualifications for a diagnosis of AIDS.
