Should Dizziness Cause Worry After Being Diagnosed With Mitral Valve Prolapse And Heart Murmur?
I am a healthy 59 year old female. I have been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and a heart murmur about 20 years ago. I am not, and never was a smoker. I am not a drinker. I am a healthy weight. I have, for several years now, been getting palpitations that seem like a skip or flutter. I notice it is worse if I am stressed and/or after having a couple of cups of coffee. Some times (but not always) these palpitations are accompanied by some dizziness. I have had two or three echocardiagrams over the the years as well as ekgs. The doctors don t seem to be concerned. Since I am getting older, should I be more concerned about this?
Do not get worried about MVP and heart murmur , particularly if regurgitation is not significant. Palpitations can occur with excessive Coffee drinking and few patients with MVP. You can undergo 24 hours Holter monitoring ( out patient investigation ) for assessment of intensity of the palpitations
