Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should Cephalexin Be Continued ( Taken For Infected Toe) In Case Of Bloody Diarrhoea?
I had an infected toe and have taken cephalexin twice daily for two days. Last night about 2 hrs after the dose I had diarrhea. It only lasted for an hr or so last night but I still feel sick this morning. There was a very small amount of blood in the diarrhea this morning. Should I continue to take the cephalexin?
Cephalexin is unlikely to have been the cause of this bloody diarrhea. I will advise that you observe it and make sure it is no longer still going on. If it stops, then there is no reason to stay worried. I it should persist, I will suggest that you consider getting evaluated by your doctor to make sure all is well. In any case, do not stop this medication as it is unlikely to be the cause and if you must do so, let your doctor know of it so as t make the necessary adjustments to get some other drug that can treat the toe infection.
Thanks and hope this helps. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
