Hello. Thank you for writing to us

The medication that you inquire about in this query is an oral steroid and it is mainly indicated in vitiligo that is spreading Or progressing fast.
The goal of using an oral steroid is to stop progression in vitiligo though it can also induce re-pigmentation. Nevertheless steroid induced re-pigmentation is not long lasting and most of the times it reverses once steroids are discontinued.
Therefore, purpose of giving oral steroids in vitiligo is just to arrest the spread of disease rather than a re-pigmentation inducing therapy.
In vitiligo, oral steroids is usually given as a pulse dose on 2 consecutive days in a week, maximum for 4-6 months.
You have been using it for 18 months and that is way too long for an oral steroid in vitiligo. This has to stop.
Oral steroids can cause serious side effects on long term use like raised blood sugar, weight gain, hypertension and fluid retention, acne, stretch marks, osteoporosis etc
Therefore I suggest that you take an appointment with your doctor and let him/her know about your long term steroid usage.
For widespread vitiligo involvement, phototherapy (NB-UVB) along with topical tacrolimus, topical mometasone is advisable and safer even for long term use in vitiligo.
I suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for more details regarding role of narrow band phototherapy (NB-UVB) in vitiligo
