Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
Your treatment seems to be on the right track. Wysolone is a steroid and 20-30 mg is a low dose and when taken for 5 days does not cause major side effects. He will probably stop them once the acute rashes come under control and continue you on antihistamines alone.
Hope this answered your query.
Take care.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Steroids are one of the drugs used for controlling urticaria but they come 3 rd in my list.

I manage my patients of urticaria by 2nd generation non-sedating antihistamines like cetrizine 10mg, fexofenadine 120mg OR loratadine 10mg in the usual doses.

If the patient does'nt respond to them in the usual doses that i mentioned, they can be safely updosed upto 4 times the usual doses i.e cetrizine can be given 10mg-40mg in day, fexofenadine 120-480mg in a day and loratadine 10-40mg in a day.

Still unresponsive patients can be added 1st generation sedating antihistamines like hydroxyzine, diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramine and/or H2 receptor blockers like ranitidine.

Still unresponsive patients can be given a short course of oral steroids like either prednisolone in dose of 0.5-1 mg /kg body weight for 2 weeks and then withdrawn. That comes out to be 30-40mg prednisolone once daily.

take care
regards
