I woke up and my left lower gum area where my last tooth is, is swollen and hurts terribly. there also seems to be a cut on the side of the gm area. I have been doing salt water flush for 2 days now, using numbing cream, mouth wash and viniger, also i used peroxide. I am 20 year old female and I have never had my wisdom teeth pulled or grown in yet, however i cannot see any teeth erupting. I can barly open my mouth up and my jaw is hurting a little as well

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

Last tooth probably could be your wisdom tooth, as it is showing signs of eruption and thereby you experience such symptoms.

Using salt water rinse is acceptable but please do not use peroxide and vinegar as it erodes the area and results in ulceration.

please do not be worried,i would suggest you to visit your dentist once get a small x ray done .This will confirm it to you, if it is due to erupting wisdom tooth.

If not it could be the result of deep periodontal pocket.even this requires close inspection clinically and curettage as the treatment.

Meanwhile use only warm saline for gentle rinsing.you can take analgesics if required until you see your dentist.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

hello,
thanks for sharing your view,

as per your clinical presentation and going by your age this is the time for eruption of wisdom tooth..it might not be visible all the time clinically...hence it can only be confirmed by radiographs.
therefore do visit a dentist and confirm the diagnosis.in the mean time dont stop gurgling with warm salt water...
get well soon...
take care

Hello,

Thanks for choosing hcm forum.

From the symptoms mentioned ,the chances of impacted wisdom tooth which is inflammed is high.

Please do visit a dentist and get a thorough clinical evaluation done.

Antibiotics has to be administered along with analgesics to prevent underlying infection.

Gargle frequently with warm saline.

Flap overlying tooth has to be removed or tooth has to be extracted depending on space available for tooth eruption.

Hope this suffices.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

The above symptoms which you gave mentioned is due to the erruption of the wisdom tooth, difficulty in mouth opening is due to pain and swelling, inflammation.
I would suggest you to get a checkup don by an Oral Surgeon, take an OPG radiograph to know the position of the errupting tooth whether impacted.?
Take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics.
Take lukewarm saline rinses and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Maintain a good oral hygiene avoid eating food from the affected side.

Hope this helps out.

Hello,

Thanks for your query,

On the basis of your information I think your wisdom tooth is under eruption process..but not yet erupted..

Continue rinsing with warm saline water..
Proper Xray is required to see the position of your wisdom tooth...

You can have analgesic..and don't take any hard, spicy or hot food on that side..
Consult with dentist..

Take care...

hi...
thanks for the query...
according to your age and symptoms, it seems that your wisdom tooth is trying to come out... sometimes its not visible so you should go for radiographic examination for proper diagnosis...
visit your dentist to get the area cleaned and irrigated... he will also prescribe you antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs to subside the symptoms...
if sufficient space seems to be available on the radiograph, for the tooth to erupt, then small procedure called operculectomy (removal of the gum area over the tooth) should be done... this will help with its eruption...
if sufficient space doesn't seems to be available. then go for its extraction...
hope it will help you...
take care...
