Pressure In Rectum, Painful While Expelling Gas, Occasional Spotting. Post Operation And Recovering. Normal?

I am only 7 days post op and am recovering nicely I think. I had a hysterectomoy with a rectocele procedure, vaginally. My pain seems to be deep in my fanny- lots of pressure by my rectum. Even when I have to expel gas, it is quite painful. Is this normal? My other 'repairs' don't seem to bother me...only occasional spotting. My biggest complaint is the extreme pressure rectally and pain when I sit or stand for extended times.

Hello ma'am.

Yes, such an experience after the surgery you have undergone can be considered normal. This will change as your body continues to heal and as you get back to your regular diet and drink plenty of fluids.

As the bulk in your diet increases your digestive system should get back to working the eay it used to. A nil-per-os diet with the gradual introduction of food and water would have also added to this. Your bowels were used to being located at a certain place, in order to ensure they stay there despite of the increased room after the removal of your uterus might have required a few measures that could have led to your presentstion. This is normal and is nothing to worry about. You are already on the road to recovery and shall soon be perfectly fine.

Best wishes.

God bless.
