Premature Child Has Gastroplication With PEG. Has Naso Gasric Tube. Feeds Only Through Gastrosstomy. Suggestions?

my grandson a premature child of 17 mths (corrected age14.5 mths), gastroplication with PEG, gastrostomy 27 days ago. He iss off oral feeds. When he had naso gasric tube he easily drank 80 to 100 ml. I feel he has difficulty in swallowing because when bottle fed he does not swallow but spit out or dribbles from sides of the mouth . I am disappointed because instead of drinking better after removal of NG tube, he has gone worssse on oral feeds HE cannot drink 20 to 30 ml of milk .All feed has to be put through gastrosstomy tube.
.Would you please advise/explain.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Following removal of the NG tube it takes some time for the child to swallow properly and have adequate quantity of feeds. You should encourage your grandson to have more oral feeds and supplement it by the gastrostomy tube.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your grandson an early recovery.
