Pregnant, Two Foetal Sacs, One With Living Embryo And Other Without Embryo, Vaginal Bleeding, Taking Duphastone

Hi,
I'm Vietnamese. I'm 8 week-pregnant now. Last Saturday, I went to hospital and had ultrasound by a doctor. The result was that there were two fetal sacs in my uterus. The first fetal sac is 19mm long, with yolksac but without embryo. The second fetal sac has living embryo ( the embryo is 16mm long). The doctor said my first fetal sac stop developping and prescibed me Duphaston 10mg, 2 tablets a day to save the second fetal sac. I don't know why my fisrt fetal sac stop developping? I was wondering that 3 weeks ago when I knew that I was pregnant, I went to a private doctor at her house. I had ultrasound checked by her but she hurt my vagina and made it bleed. When she saw my blood, she gave me ultrotestran tablets and asked me to take 2tablets a day whinthin 1 week and later went back to her. When I went home, my uterus was hurt a lot and bled (not much). Before I met her, my vagina didn't bleed and my uterus didn't feel hurt. That doctor made my first fetal sac stop developping, didn't she?.

Now I worry a lot that I dare not to take Duphaston.

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

No she did not. It is not unusual to have a miscarriage of a pregnancy. It happens in about 15% of conceptions. This is not different just because you have twins. If one of the twins was not healthy, then it is destined to miscarry and this was not caused by the ultrasound. I am very sorry about your loss. It sounds, though, like the other pregnancy is healthy, and you need weekly ultrasounds until this is sorted out!

I hope that this helps and good luck!
