Pregnant suffering from muscle cramps in the calf. Sore lump formed. What is it?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and have been waking up in the middle of the night with an excruciating muscle cramp in my calf muscles over the past couple of weeks. But for the past 4 days, my lower left leg has been extremely sore and I can hardly walk on it and I have noticed a lump UNDER my calf muscle. Any ideas on what it could be?

Dear user, welcome to healthcare magic.
Please visit you doctor and have a lower limb duplex immediately to exclude the possibility of deep vein thrombosis, which is common in pregnancy.
You doctor should start parental anticoagulant once he suspects DVT.
If the duplex is normal and your doctor does not suspect DVT, then there is nothing to worry about.
As for the muscle cramps, try to do the following.
- increase calcium and magnesium supplementation.
- have a 10 minute walk daily if your doctor allows.
- drink plenty of water.
- wear supportive stockings.
Good luck.
Dr. Ahmed Bahaa.
