Induce means when the labor pains does not start naturally and you induce labor pains artificially with medications and injections is known as induction of labor.
It is quite a common procedure and is usually done when you pass your due date, because that itself has many problems when you cross your due date like the water around the baby decreases, difficult normal delivery, chances of baby getting suffocated inside the womb etc...so to prevent those complications of postdatism it is better to induce labor with proper monitoring facilities and under experienced hands.
