Pain After Hip Replacement. Doctor Suspects Improper Socket Knitting From X-ray. How To Proceed?
I had a hip replacement 8 wks ago. when I went for my 2nd checkup the dr. saw a shadow where the socket was he does not use cement he asked me how I felt and I told him good I did not have pain now I am experiencing some pain do I have reason to be concerned he told me at the time of my checkup he was concerned that it was not knitting together but at that time he was more concerned how I was feeling not what the xray showed
The recent onset of pain in the hip joint after a period of pain free total hip replacement (THR) is not a good sign. There are numerous causes for the occurence of pain after THR.
A few common conditions are mechanical loosening and sepsis, particulate induced (polyethylene-induced) synovitis, trochanteric bursitis, sciatic or obturator nerve impingement, abductor or iliopsoas tendonitis etc.
Persistent pain in and around the Hip joint after a THR always warrants evaluation in the form of Blood investigations to rule out infection, CT scan & Xray films to diagnose loosening of the components, and Arthrography & radionuclidescintigraphy.
So, a thorough clinical examination and investigative evaluation is needed to arrive at a possible diagnosis for the cause of your pain. And the management depends on the diagnosed condition.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
