Out Of 2d Echocardiography And Ct Angiography Which One Is Better?

am 51 years old male having no complains at present, diabetic since 5 years on glipizide 2mg + metformin 500mg (1 twice daily) and dyslipidemia since 2 years, taking atorvastatin 1mg (1 at bed time). my hba1c level is 7.1 (18/10/2011) and ecg shows changes of ischaemia (as interpreted by a doctor). the doctor has advised me for 2d echocardiography. i would like to know which one i should go for 2d echocardiography or ct angiography?

Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic.
I would suggest that you go for a 2d echocardiography first and then decide the course of treatment further. CT Angiography and 2D echocardiography both have their advantages and disadvantages. CT can detect the coronary arteries and grade your percentage of stenosis/obstruction but 2d echo can detect the functionality of the heart and assess how much decrease in function is there. 2D echo is a first line investigation and should be done first after which the cardiologist can decide further management. If required, he will advise for a CT angio or may go ahead with cathlab angiography if necessary. The important thing is to assess the function of your heart at present, so he has advised for a 2D echo. I would also suggest the same.
Hope it sorts your problem and wishing you a speedy recovery.
