Operated For Aspergillus In Lungs, On Ventilator, Tracheostomy Done. How Many Days Will It Take To Come Out Of Ventilator?
Hi doctor , my uncle is operated for aspergillus in lungs ,there was a fungus ball which was attached between lungs and chest . operation was successful but its nearly 20 days of him being on ventilator ,his age is 54 .past 4 days they have done tracheostomy .and he has recovered well .but he can breathe without ventilator for 2 to 4 hours a day .please recommend how many days will it take to come completely out ventilator .
Hi, Thanks for your query. He must have been operated for aspergilloma of the lung. As per your history he is being given a trial of spontaneous breathing of 4-6 hrs per day. He is on weaning protocol. Gradually your doctor will increase the ventilator free hours and will be free after some days, if continue to remain stable. If unluckily he deteriorates, then again will be needed to put on ventilator. But why to think bad,,let god help him and if everything remains fine he will be off nentilator with in a week....
Best wishes
