One Year Old Child, Vomiting, Diarrhea. Domstal Given, Gramoneg Prescribed. Suggestions?
My 1 yr kid vomited thrice in d morning..he was given domstal twice, once in d morning and later in d afternoon.. by evening diarrhoea also started..I was asked to give gramoneg also by my ped over the phone..How long should i wait for d symptoms to disappear? or should i take him to hospital now itself? We had travelled ystrdy by train from our native place? Can it be food poisoning?
This is most likely a viral gastroenteritis. Such an illness is very common in tropical countries. I presume you are from one such country, probably India. You may continue Domperidone as advised by your doctor, but it will be more vital to give him rehydrating fluids like ORS (available in pharmacies all over the world ... ask for the WHO approved one), as also soups, bland juices and normal food. I would not hurry to give GramoNeg, because viruses are unaffected by antibacterial drugs or antibiotics.
The attack is unlikely to be due to food poisoning, as that might have affected you and your spouse or other children as well.
You could wait for at least 2 more days before concluding that he needs to rush to his pediatrician or go to ER.
