On Methatrexate To Treat RA. Dosage Doubled. Unexplained Weight Loss. Due To Increase Dose Or RA Symptoms?

Greetings - My mother has been on methatrexate for approx. 15 years to treat RA. Her dosage was recently doubled. In the past few months, she has experienced unexplained weight loss of about 20 pounds. She is treated by the Mayo Clinic and they have run every conceivable test, all of which have come back negative. We are currently waiting for the results of an abdominal CT scan, though. Could this weight loss be caused by the doubling of her dose of methatrexate and/or increasing RA symptoms?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
The weight loss due to unexplained reasons may be due to the side effects of Methotraxate as note down please.
Methotraxate , she is taking from the last 15 years and now doubled the dose, so this causes,
osteoporosis ( for confirmation bone density test requires),
necrosis of soft tissue & bone ( weight loss may be due to this and all tests will be negative)
2nd reason of weight loss may be due to other medicines concomitantly uses along this .S
