On Levothyroxine .88mg. What Other Doses It Comes In ?

What doses does levothyroxine come in. I am presently taking .88mg (BC Canada) and need to take a lower dose. The pills are not particularly big in the first place but I just filled a three month prescription so was hoping to just cut them. I don't recall my blood work results off the top however I do know I am over medicating after 2 similar tests show.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,

Prescription of drugs related to thyroid function demand many considerations being taken into consideration. These range from clinical manifestations in the patient in question , blood levels of Thyroid hormone (T4, at times T#, TSH and TRH).

The prescription considers the patient's medical history and changing of the dose usually depends on the clinical response to treatment, as well as the other paraclinical changes in the values of T4, T3, TSH and TRH. It might difficult to monitor efficacy of treatment in case you alter the doses of the drugs without the consent of your physician. I strongly think you should seek advice from your physician first.

Kind regards,

Bain LE, MD.
