Mild Chest Pain. Using Marijuana. History Of Heart Murmur. Treatment?

I am a 22 year old male in overall good health. I used to have a first-degree heart murmur (functional only), but I don t think the doctors can hear it anymore. I have been using marijuana regularly for about a year now (mostly vaporizing), and every once in a while, after using, I will feel mild pains that feel like they are coming from my heart. I imagine that it s probably muscular, but it does appear to be coming from my left side only. What kind of doctor should I see about this problem? What could it be? How could they test it?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. The chest pain may or may not be related to the history of marijuana usage. If you have had a heart murmur you must take precautions as advised by the cardiologist. I believe that you may not be able to use marijuana at all on a regular basis, even medical marijuana. I hope you understand and consult a psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of substance use disorders. I hope you do so as soon as possible. They may be able to test you for continued usage, check liver, renal, blood panels and tox screens to determine if you have continued usage history, and need tests to determine your overall health. You may also need to consult a cardiologist if you have a serious condition as a result of your murmur.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
