Hello I had a L5-S1 fusion a little over three years ago. I got my MRI results today.. I went to the Dr. to see why I was having so much pain for so long and having similar pain to when I had to initially get my first fusion.. The MRI reports says at the L4-L5 level, there is a small midline disk protrusion with annular fissure. It also says Postsurgical changes at the L5-S1 level with fusion of the diso space, posterior fusion hardware, laminectomy and right facetectomy. Mild right S1 perineural postoperative enhancing scar tissue and mild right-sided foraminal stenosis. What exactly is this and what does it mean?
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Small disc herniation in L5- S1.
There is a cartilage like tissue between two spine bones called Intervertebral disc. It is protrudes inside the spinal canal in disc between Lumbar segment 5 and Sacral spine.
As you had the surgery earlier, the features are shown in MRI- Scar tissues, Laminectomy and Facetomy ( it is the Operating procedure you had earlier).
Forminal Stenosis means decrease in the space of spinal canal where the spinal cord travels in spine.

MRI Of Spine Done. What Does The Findings Mean?
Hello, Welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thus my advise is to consult a spine surgeon for further management for disc prolapse and foraminal stenosis. Hope this helps. Please reply for further queries. Wishing you good health.
