Lump In Breast, Clear Liquid. Ultrasound, Mammogram Shows Benign Lump. Have Hypothyroidism. Scheduled For Palatine Test

Hi. I found a lump in my breast about 8 months ago. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound. Lump is benign. Follow up ultrasound 2 months ago. Still there, bigger, but not dense. Last week I had a clear liquid from that same breast. I have also noticed that only that aereola has grown darker. I have hypothyroidism. Dr ordered palatine (spelling?) test today. Any ideas?

Hello ma'am.

The most common tumor or growth in the breast is called a fibroadenoma, which is benign and does easily grow to a certain size and then just remains that size in most cases. Although textbooks advice complete removal of the growth, in most women this does not cause any trouble and can remain the same size without causing any symptoms for 20-25 years or longer.

But as you are experiencing a discharge and other symptoms, it is best to further investigate and confirm the diagnosis and decide the way forward from there.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
