Low Potassium Level And CAT Scan Shows Cyst On Ovary. Is The Cyst Dangerous As The Doctor Had Not Advised For A Sonogram?

YES MY DAUGHTER IS 17 YRS OLD, RECENTLY HAD A BABY BOY ON OCT 21, 2013. YESTERDAY SHE BEGAN VOMITING AND CAN KEEP NOTHING DOWN LIQUID OR SOLID; SHE WENT TO E.R. AND THEY CHECKED HER LABWORK AND SAID SHE HAS A LOW POTASSIUM LEVEL; THEY ALSO DID A CAT SCAN AND FOUND A CYST ON ONE OF HER OVARIES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAUSED HER LOW K LEVEL AND IS THIS CYST DANGEROUS AS TO SHOULD THEY BE SENDING HER HOME WITHOUT DOING A SONGRAM TO CHECK THE SIZE/SEVERITY OF CYST?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. Low potassium levels in your daughter is due to vomiting and nothing to worry much as once fluid replacement is done the levels will get rise. About the cyst until and unless the cyst is not large there is nothing to get worried much. Before discharge they will definitely give you the details about size and severity. Hope this answers your query. Thank you.
