Itchy Leg After Surger For Fibula. Recommendations?

I had surgery to repair lower part of fibula at the ankle. I have a plate and 6 screws in the left leg. I am having terrible time with my skin on that portion of my leg. Itches terribly! Even to the point it wakes me up at night. I use moisturizing cream 2 to 3 times a day. I am a nurse it does not look like cellulitis . It s right in the area of the repaired break. I had a concern before surgery if there was a chance there could be material in the hardware they put it I could be allergic to. (nickel was my concern) Dr. said no nickel in the hardware. He has never had anyone with an allergic reaction to this particular hardware. Any recommendations of lotions or creams to help clear this up as I m tearing my skin up. Looks terrible. I feel burning sensation at times along with the itching. I did not have a cast on. I had a boot on for 7 1/2 weeks.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Dear Madam, Thanks for asking. This is due to hypersensitivity of that metelic instrument. But it might be temporary problem. Please take antihistamin orally and topical Tacrolimus .1% twice daily will help the condition to improve. Systemic Steroid may be required if not improve with in 2 weeks. Regards.......Dr.Hasib
